Heikkinen's Haka offers you the opportunity to experience Icelandic horse riding on the idyllic island of Hailuoto. You can explore the island's beautiful landscapes from horseback. For example, embark on a trail ride and experience the island’s pine forests and rich nature!

Trail Rides with Icelandic Horses in Hailuoto

Would you like to go on a hiking trip with horses? We can take one to two horses with saddle bags. The horses can carry snacks and even a tired traveler. The ride can follow the island's hiking trails or choose any other direction. A guide is included in the price of the trip.

Trail Ride Options

You can choose your preferred trail ride:

  • An hour and a half trail ride can be done either at a walk or in various gaits, including short stretches of tölt, trot, and canter. The total duration of the ride is about two hours, including horse care, saddling, and guidance at the beginning. The ride is suitable for a maximum of three riders.

  • A two-hour trail ride is more suitable for those who have ridden before. On this ride, we will progress in all gaits. The total duration is about three hours and includes horse care, saddling, and instructions.

Longer Rides or Day Trips

On longer rides, we will go to the seaside, weather permitting, part of the journey may be done on beach sand. The water level affects how far we can ride along the beach. There are sandy roads that make for a pleasant ride through the island. The routes vary depending on which beach we head to.

For these trips, some riding skill is needed so that you can control the horse in unexpected situations and in all gaits. Longer rides are done in groups of 2-3 people and should be booked well in advance. It's good to allow 5-6 hours for the trip, including about an hour for a snack break. These trips are not suitable for those who are very timid; a bit of adventurous spirit is needed!

Diverse and Enjoyable Activities with Horses
  • Guided Hiking Trip: We will lead the horses while enjoying the picturesque landscapes of Hailuoto. The route can be planned together with the hikers. The duration is about 3 hours.

  • Leisurely Strolling Trip: On this trip, we will go wherever the paths take us. This trip can include seasonal activities such as swimming the horses, birdwatching, mushroom picking, berry picking, geocaching, or even moose spotting. We will eat snacks along the way when it feels right. We can even take a nap in the mossy forest. Strolling can be enjoyed even by those who have not ridden much, with a leader to help. This is my absolute favorite! The duration is about 3 hours.

  • Lead Riding: Experience your first contact with riding safely alongside a leader. The time includes preparing the horses and riding for about half an hour.

  • Morning Stable: In the morning stable, we take care of and feed the horses and other animals, clean the stable, and bed the stalls. Tasks vary by season. The duration is about 2 hours.

  • Horse Farm Morning: Seasonal work at the horse farm. We start with the morning stable and the care of the animals. Then we move on to other tasks that are timely at that moment. This activity is excellent for those who want to get acquainted with the everyday life of a horse farm. Duration is 3 hours.
